Not on a Smart Meter? You will need to provide daily energy readings.

Shark Energy, an energy provider based in the Cayman Islands, has announced new regulations requiring daily meter readings from customers who refuse to install a Smart Meter. The company, which serves around 180,000 customers in the UK, primarily in southwest England and northeast Scotland, will enforce the policy starting next Monday.

Under the new rules, customers without a Smart Meter must submit their meter readings by 7pm each day, with no exceptions for holidays, illness, or even death. Failure to comply will result in being placed on the “Double Tariff” rate, meaning their electricity and gas charges will be doubled until they adhere to the new requirements.

Shark Energy clarified that this daily meter reading mandate applies only to existing customers. Those joining the company without a Smart Meter will face an even stricter policy, requiring hourly meter readings. Reports indicate that other UK energy providers are monitoring the situation and may adopt similar measures soon.
